Endangered Species Act - State Endangered Species Lists

State Endangered Species Lists

Section 6 of the Endangered Species Act provided funding for development of programs for management of threatened and endangered species by state wildlife agencies. Subsequently, lists of endangered and threatened species within their boundaries have been prepared by each state. These state lists often include species which are considered endangered or threatened within a specific state but not within all states, and which therefore are not included on the national list of endangered and threatened species. Examples include Florida, Minnesota, and Maine.

Famous quotes containing the words state, endangered, species and/or lists:

The State must follow, and not lead, the character and progress of the citizen.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Man is imperfect. The reality he creates is always endangered by man.
    Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1921–1990)

Both classically- and romantically-minded spirits—inasmuch as these two species always exist—occupy themselves with a vision of the future: but the former do so out of a strength of their age, the latter out of its weakness.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

Most of our platitudes notwithstanding, self-deception remains the most difficult deception. The tricks that work on others count for nothing in that very well-lit back alley where one keeps assignations with oneself: no winning smiles will do here, no prettily drawn lists of good intentions.
    Joan Didion (b. 1934)
