Emperor Nintoku - Events of Nintoku's Life

Events of Nintoku's Life

Although the Nihon Shoki states that Nintoku ruled from 313–399, modern research suggests those dates are likely inaccurate.

The achievements of Nintoku's reign which are noted in Nihon Shoki include:

  • constructed a thorn field bank called Namba no Horie to prevent a flood in Kawachi plains and for development. It is assumed that this was Japan's first large-scale engineering works undertaking.
  • established a thorn field estate under the direct control of the Imperial Court (まむたのみやけ)
  • constructed a Yokono bank (horizontal parcel, Ikuno-ku, Osaka-shi).

Famous quotes containing the words events of, events and/or life:

Nothing that grieves us can be called little: by the eternal laws of proportion a child’s loss of a doll and a king’s loss of a crown are events of the same size.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)

It is clear to everyone that astronomy at all events compels the soul to look upwards, and draws it from the things of this world to the other.
    Plato (c. 427–347 B.C.)

There was never a revolution to equal it, and never a city more glorious than Petrograd, and for all that period of my life I lived another and braved the ice of winter and the summer flies in Vyborg while across my adopted country of the past, winds of the revolution blew their flame, and all of us suffered hunger while we drank at the wine of equality.
    Norman Mailer (b. 1923)
