Other Uses
As well as functioning as a football stadium, the Emirates Stadium also operates as a conference centre and music venue. On 27 March 2008, the Emirates Stadium played host to a summit between British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, in part because the stadium was regarded as "a shining example of Anglo–French co-operation". Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band became the first act to play a concert at the stadium, on 30 May 2008 and played a second gig the following night. On 7 June 2009, the stadium held the inaugural Capital FM's Summertime Ball with artists including Lionel Richie, Leona Lewis and Blue. British band Coldplay played three concerts at the Emirates in the June 2012, having sold out the first two dates within 30 minutes of going on sale.
The Emirates had also been included in the English Football Association's unsuccessful bid to host the 2018 World Cup.
In August 2012 it was announced that the stadium would host American rockers Green Day live in concert in June 2013, and in November 2012 British band Muse revealed that they would play two dates at the Emirates in late May 2013.
