Ian Brown used a passage from Elizabeth's poem A Musical Note to name his third solo album The Music of the Spheres.

The former singer of British band The Smiths, Morrissey has also talked of his love for Elizabeth Smart. References to 'By Grand Central Station' are littered throughout Smiths songs such as 'What She Said', 'London', 'Well I Wonder', and 'Shakespeare's Sister'.

Famous quotes containing the word influence:

I have thought a sufficient measure of civilization is the influence of good women.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

This declared indifference, but as I must think, covert real zeal for the spread of slavery, I can not but hate. I hate it because of the monstrous injustice of slavery itself. I hate it because it deprives our republican example of its just influence in the world ... and especially because it forces so many really good men amongst ourselves into an open war with the very fundamental principles of civil liberty.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)

Exhaust them, wrestle with them, let them not go until their blessing be won, and, after a short season, the dismay will be overpast, the excess of influence withdrawn, and they will be no longer an alarming meteor, but one more brighter star shining serenely in your heaven, and blending its light with all your day.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
