The Historic St. Mary's church was consecrated on October 28, 1680, with Rev. Richard Portman and all other English inhabitants of the fort. Famous quotes containing the word marriage:

A woman asking “Am I good? Am I satisfied?” is extremely selfish. The less women fuss about themselves, the less they talk to other women, the more they try to please their husbands, the happier the marriage is going to be.
    Barbara Cartland (b. 1901)

That a marriage ends is less than ideal; but all things end under heaven, and if temporality is held to be invalidating, then nothing real succeeds.
    John Updike (b. 1932)

The sum and substance of female education in America, as in England, is training women to consider marriage as the sole object in life, and to pretend that they do not think so.
    Harriet Martineau (1802–1876)
