Mauritius elects on national level a legislature. The National Assembly has 70 members, 62 elected for a four year term in 21 multi-member constituencies and 8 additional "best loser" members appointed by the Supreme Court. The president is elected for a five-year term by the parliament. Mauritius has a multi-party system, with two or three strong parties and a third party that is electorally successful.
