European Parliament Elections
See also: European Parliament election, 2014 and Accession of Croatia to the European UnionCroatia is expected to elect 12 members of the European Parliament (MEPs) in a by-election held after its accession to the EU. The by-election may be held at least six months prior to the scheduled 2014 European Parliament election—otherwise the 12 MEPs will be elected in the 2014 elections which are already planned to include Croatia. The elections are regulated by special legislation enacted by the Sabor. Provisions of the legislation are very similar to the parliamentary-election legislation, with the main difference being that the 12 members of the European Parliament are elected in a single constituency encompassing all of Croatia, instead of multiple constituencies used in the parliamentary elections.

Famous quotes containing the words european, parliament and/or elections:
“I can never suppose this country so far lost to all ideas of self-importance as to be willing to grant America independence; if that could ever be adopted I shall despair of this country being ever preserved from a state of inferiority and consequently falling into a very low class among the European States.”
—George III (17381820)
“What is the historical function of Parliament in this country? It is to prevent the Government from governing.”
—George Bernard Shaw (18561950)
“In my public statements I have earnestly urged that there rested upon government many responsibilities which affect the moral and spiritual welfare of our people. The participation of women in elections has produced a keener realization of the importance of these questions and has contributed to higher national ideals. Moreover, it is through them that our national ideals are ingrained in our children.”
—Herbert Hoover (18741964)
