EE Times - Ownership and Status

Ownership and Status

EE Times was launched in 1972 by Gerard G. Leeds of CMP Publishing. CMP was acquired by United in 1999. After the turn of the millennium, with the rise of Internet publishing and under new ownership after sale of CMP Media by the Leeds family in 1999 for over $900 million to United Business Media, EE Times moved more into web publishing. The shift in advertising from print to online began to accelerate in 2007 and EE Times shed staff to adjust to the downturn in revenue.

Famous quotes containing the words ownership and/or status:

They had their fortunes to make, everything to gain and nothing to lose. They were schooled in and anxious for debates; forcible in argument; reckless and brilliant. For them it was but a short and natural step from swaying juries in courtroom battles over the ownership of land to swaying constituents in contests for office. For the lawyer, oratory was the escalator that could lift a political candidate to higher ground.
—Federal Writers’ Project Of The Wor, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

Anthropologists have found that around the world whatever is considered “men’s work” is almost universally given higher status than “women’s work.” If in one culture it is men who build houses and women who make baskets, then that culture will see house-building as more important. In another culture, perhaps right next door, the reverse may be true, and basket- weaving will have higher social status than house-building.
