Exhumation
In an effort to settle persistent theories that Edwin's brother was not the man killed and that John actually escaped and lived under an assumed name for many years after, descendants of Edwin Booth obtained permission to exhume his body to obtain DNA samples. The family hoped to obtain DNA samples from artifacts belonging to John Wilkes such as vertebrae stored at the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Maryland for comparison.
