Edward Davey - Personal Life

Personal Life

Davey has struggled with his weight since working in a pork pie factory in his teens. In 2012, he was heading for 15 stone.

In 1995, before his election as an MP, he won a Royal Humane Society bravery award and commendation from the Chief Constable of the British Transport Police for rescuing a woman who had fallen onto the train line in the face of on oncoming train at Clapham Junction station. In 2001 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).

Davey married Emily Gasson (Lib Dem candidate in North Dorset) in summer 2005 and their first child, John Alban Davey, was born in December 2007. Their son has speech difficulties leading to Davey's interest in speech therapy. They live in Surbiton and Shaftesbury.

Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or life:

Your children don’t have equal talents now and they won’t have equal opportunities later in life. You may be able to divide resources equally in childhood, but your best efforts won’t succeed in shielding them from personal or physical crises. . . . Your heart will be broken a thousand times if you really expect to equalize your children’s happiness by striving to love them equally.
    Marianne E. Neifert (20th century)

Shielded, what sorts of life are stirring yet:
Legs lagged like drains, slippers soft as fungus,
The gas and grate, the old cold sour grey bed.
    Philip Larkin (1922–1986)
