2006 U.S. Senate Election

Case challenged Senator Daniel Akaka in the Democratic primary election. He lost the September primary, 53-46%. Famous quotes containing the words senate and/or election:

I think the Senate ought to realize that I have to have about me those in whom I have confidence; and unless they find a real blemish on a man, I do not think they ought to make partisan politics out of appointments to the Cabinet.
    Calvin Coolidge (1872–1933)

[If not re-elected in 1864] then it will be my duty to so co-operate with the President elect, as to save the Union between the election and the inauguration; as he will have secured his election on such ground that he can not possibly save it afterwards.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)
