Before The Eaton Centres
Prior to the building of these large shopping malls, Eatons, like other departments stores in Canada and around the world, built stand-alone buildings that would hold one large department store only. Often these large retailers dominated the central cores of many mid-sized Canadian cities. Examples include the Eaton's Building, and College Park as well as the original Eaton's store, both in Toronto.

Famous quotes containing the word centres:
“We all haveto put it as nicely as I canour lower centres and our higher centres. Our lower centres act: they act with terrible power that sometimes destroys us; but they dont talk.... Since the war the lower centres have become vocal. And the effect is that of an earthquake. For they speak truths that have never been spoken beforetruths that the makers of our domestic institutions have tried to ignore.”
—George Bernard Shaw (18561950)
