Famous quotes containing the words east, coast and/or road:
“Sublime tobacco! which from east to west
Cheers the tars labour or the Turkmans rest.”
—George Gordon Noel Byron (17881824)
“The Boston papers had never told me that there were seals in the harbor. I had always associated these with the Esquimaux and other outlandish people. Yet from the parlor windows all along the coast you may see families of them sporting on the flats. They were as strange to me as the merman would be. Ladies who never walk in the woods, sail over the sea. To go to sea! Why, it is to have the experience of Noah,to realize the deluge. Every vessel is an ark.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“At sundown, leaving the river road awhile for shortness, we went by way of Enfield, where we stopped for the night. This, like most of the localities bearing names on this road, was a place to name which, in the midst of the unnamed and unincorporated wilderness, was to make a distinction without a difference, it seemed to me.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
