Earth Alliance (Babylon 5) - Military

Military

The military force of the Earth Alliance is called EarthForce. EarthForce has the largest military of any of the younger races with some estimates and hull markings on Earthships pointing to EarthForce having over 20,000 ships during the Babylon 5 timeframe. It is separated into three sections:

  • Navy - all starship and space station crews come from this division. Navy officers and crew wear blue uniforms.
  • Marines - the ground forces of the Earth Alliance. They wear brown uniforms.
  • Security - the uniformed security forces found on Earth space stations. (It is unknown whether they serve onboard starships.) Their uniforms are light gray in color.

EarthForce members may transfer between divisions - Dr. Stephen Franklin's father was a former Navy officer (he served as first officer on an Earth starship), but by the time we meet him, he is a Marine general ("GROPOS"). All three branches use a mixed rank system, incorporating Army and Navy style ranks.

Famous quotes containing the word military:

The transformation of the impossible into reality is always the mark of a demonic will. The only way to recognize a military genius is by the fact that, during the war, he will mock the rules of warfare and will employ creative improvisation instead of tested methods and he will do so at the right moment.
    Stefan Zweig (18811942)

The military mind is indeed a menace. Old-fashioned futurity that sees only men fighting and dying in smoke and fire; hears nothing more civilized than a cannonade; scents nothing but the stink of battle-wounds and blood.
    Sean O’Casey (1884–1964)

Who are we? And for what are we going to fight? Are we the titled slaves of George the Third? The military conscripts of Napoleon the Great? Or the frozen peasants of the Russian Czar? No—we are the free born sons of America; the citizens of the only republic now existing in the world; and the only people on earth who possess rights, liberties, and property which they dare call their own.
    Andrew Jackson (1767–1845)
