Dutton Laboratories and Dutton Epoch
The company is divided into two distinct sections. The Dutton Laboratories label came first in 1993. It initially gained recognition for its highly acclaimed series of CDs featuring transfers of historic classical music performances that originally appeared on 78-rpm shellac discs. In 1999 the Dutton Epoch series was born, dedicated to championing the unrecorded music of twentieth century British classical composers such as Arnold Bax, York Bowen, Arthur Butterworth, William Hurlstone and Granville Bantock in modern digital recordings.

“The dog is mentioned in the Bible eighteen timesthe cat not even once.”
—W.E. Farbstein. Quoted in Hundkeit, Mondo Canine, ed. Jon Winokur, Dutton (1991)
“We have what I would call educational genocide. Im concerned about learning totally, but Im immersed in the disastrous record of how many black kids are going into science. They are very few and far between. Ive said that when I see more black students in the laboratories than I see on the football field, Ill be happy.”
—Jewel Plummer Cobb (b. 1924)
“Every epoch which seeks renewal first projects its ideal into a human form. In order to comprehend its own essence tangibly, the spirit of the time chooses a human being as its prototype and raising this single individual, often one upon whom it has chanced to come, far beyond his measure, the spirit enthuses itself for its own enthusiasm.”
—Stefan Zweig (18811942)
