Western Perception
Nineteenth and early-twentieth century writers believed the "Dugpas" were be sorcerers focusing principally on the left-hand path traditions and various Tantric practices of Buddhism. Alexandra David-NĂ©el claims that the name "Dugpa" comes from the Tibetan word for thunder, as the first monastery was built during a thunderstorm.
The name "Dugpa" was used on the television show Twin Peaks to refer to a group of black magicians connected to the Black Lodge.

Famous quotes containing the words western and/or perception:
“So-called Western Civilization, as practised in half of Europe, some of Asia and a few parts of North America, is better than anything else available. Western civilization not only provides a bit of life, a pinch of liberty and the occasional pursuance of happiness, its also the only thing thats ever tried to. Our civilization is the first in history to show even the slightest concern for average, undistinguished, none-too-commendable people like us.”
—P.J. (Patrick Jake)
“Only by being guilty of Folly does mortal man in many cases arrive at the perception of Sense. A thought which should forever free us from hasty imprecations upon our ever-recurring intervals of Folly; since though Folly be our teacher, Sense is the lesson she teaches; since, if Folly wholly depart from us, Further Sense will be her companion in the flight, and we will be left standing midway in wisdom.”
—Herman Melville (18191891)
