Famous quotes containing the words table, top, miniature and/or games:
“Language was vigorous because, because ... editors usually laid all the cards on the table so as to leave their hands ... free for more persuasive arguments! The citizenry at large retaliated as best they could.”
—State of Utah, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“In a famous Middletown study of Muncie, Indiana, in 1924, mothers were asked to rank the qualities they most desire in their children. At the top of the list were conformity and strict obedience. More than fifty years later, when the Middletown survey was replicated, mothers placed autonomy and independence first. The healthiest parenting probably promotes a balance of these qualities in children.”
—Richard Louv (20th century)
“To step over the low wall that divides
Road from concrete walk above the shore
Brings sharply back something known long before
The miniature gaiety of seasides.”
—Philip Larkin (19221986)
