Donkey Kong Jr. was an arcade style game released in 1982, the plot was for Donkey Kong Jr. to save his father, Donkey Kong, from Mario (known beforehand as Jumpman).
Diddy Kong was first introduced in 'Donkey Kong Country'. He was introduced first, also as Donkey Kongs son, but was re-released be his nephew in 'Donkey Kong Country 2' after Nintendo responded badly to the character.
Dixie Kong first appeared in 'Donkey Kong Country 2' as a sidekick to Donkey Kong and has been referred to as Diddy Kong's girlfriend.
