The Dominion was established over two-thousand years prior to the events of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, by the Changelings, a race of shape-shifters, as a means of defending themseves against the widespread persecution they faced from humanoid races (whom they called "solids"). Famous quotes containing the words early and/or history:
“... goodness is of a modest nature, easily discouraged, and when much elbowed in early life by unabashed vices, is apt to retire into extreme privacy, so that it is more easily believed in by those who construct a selfish old gentleman theoretically, than by those who form the narrower judgments based on his personal acquaintance.”
—George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)
“History has neither the venerableness of antiquity, nor the freshness of the modern. It does as if it would go to the beginning of things, which natural history might with reason assume to do; but consider the Universal History, and then tell us,when did burdock and plantain sprout first?”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
