Voice
In the original series, Pete Lee was the original voice (uncredited). Eventually Frank Welker supplied Dr. Claw's low, ominous voice (and the MAD Cat's). Don Francks supplied the voice in several episodes. Dr. Claw's voice is actually the unmodulated voice of Soundwave from The Transformers. This was revealed in a few episodes of Transformers when mistakes were made in the voice editing. It was also the same voice that Frank Welker used for Darkseid on Super Friends, Emperor Krulos in Dino-Riders, Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat, The Cave of Wonders in Disney's Aladdin and the voice of The Devil in both The Golden Child and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. The same voice was used in the live action movie Spawn for Malebolgia. The voice was used for Soundwave once again, only without the vocoder modulation, for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. In the Garfield show he uses the voice for a talking scale that comes to life and makes fat jokes at Garfield (another character he voice). According to Frank Welker in the commentary for the Robot Chicken episode "Adoption's An Option," the voice originated from an impersonation of Barry White. Usually, Dr. Claw's voice would be given reverb effects for a dramatic effect. This is not present in some early episodes and in the second season.
Most of the dubbed, localized versions of the cartoon used voices similar to the original Claw's (sometimes, e.g. in the Polish version, even deeper), but in some countries, the Doctor's voice was quite different (e.g. the Greek version, which adds a robot-like effect to his voice, which was a trademark of the dubbing studio) ; in at least one dubbed version, he was actually speaking in a rather high pitched tone, much like a comical impotent villain.
In the episodes "Mad Trap", "Basic Training", "Gadget Goes West", and "The Coo-Coo Clock Caper", Frank Welker wasn't available to voice Doctor Claw, and Don Francks voiced the character in his stead. One episode, "Race to the Finish", featured both Welker and Francks portraying Doctor Claw, resulting in the voice noticeably switching back and forth.
Brian Drummond voiced Dr. Claw in Gadget and the Gadgetinis, Inspector Gadget's Last Case, and Inspector Gadget's Biggest Caper Ever. M.A.D. Cat was voiced by Lee Tockar in these productions.

Famous quotes containing the word voice:
“English audiences of working people are like an instrument that responds to the player. Thought ripples up and down them, and if in some heart the speaker strikes a dissonance there is a swift answer. Always the voice speaks from gallery or pit, the terrible voice which detaches itself in every English crowd, full of caustic wit, full of irony or, maybe, approval.”
—Mary Heaton Vorse (18741966)
“During depression the world disappears. Language itself. One has nothing to say. Nothing. No small talk, no anecdotes. Nothing can be risked on the board of talk. Because the inner voice is so urgent in its own discourse: How shall I live? How shall I manage the future? Why should I go on?”
—Kate Millett (b. 1934)
“Serene stands the little captain,
He is not hurried, his voice is neither high nor low,
His eyes give more light to us than our battle-lanterns.
Toward twelve there in the beams of the moon they surrender to us.”
—Walt Whitman (18191892)
