Diss Track

A diss track or diss song is a song primarily intended to disparage or insult another person or group. While musical parodies and attacks have always existed, the trend became increasingly common in the hip hop genre as part of the hip hop rivalry phenomenon.

However, diss tracks have also occurred in other genres; for instance, the Queen song "Death on Two Legs" describes Freddie Mercury's hatred toward the band's ex-manager, Norman Sheffield, while the Megadeth song "Liar" is a diss track directed at former Megadeth member Chris Poland, and the Guns N' Roses song "Get in the Ring" is a diss directed at three music critics who gave the band negative reviews.

Famous quotes containing the word track:

It is remarkable how easily and insensibly we fall into a particular route, and make a beaten track for ourselves. I had not lived there a week before my feet wore a path from my door to the pond-side; and though it is five or six years since I trod it, it is still quite distinct. It is true, I fear, that others may have fallen into it, and so helped to keep it open.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
