Recent Developments
Research in digital imaging continues. Since 2009, researchers at MIT have been working on "Frankencamera", the world's first open-source camera, initially based on Elphel. When a final product is released, "any programmer will be able to write apps controlling any element of the camera's performance". This will enable users of Frankencamera to adjust settings such as flash, aperture, shutter speed, etc., in a fashion similar to how users of open-source operating software such as Linux are able to manipulate various aspects of the operating system at will, rather than use mechanical controls such as a mode dial. Marc Levoy, the MIT professor in charge of this project, notes the great extent to which users will be able to customize photos taken by Frankencamera from the camera itself, citing examples such as changing the focus of a photo after it has been captured. Other new products and technologies are early stages of development, such as Google's "Project Glass".

Famous quotes containing the word developments:
“I dont wanna live in a city where the only cultural advantage is that you can make a right turn on a red light.
Freedom from labor itself is not new; it once belonged among the most firmly established privileges of the few. In this instance, it seems as though scientific progress and technical developments had been only taken advantage of to achieve something about which all former ages dreamed but which none had been able to realize.”
—Hannah Arendt (19061975)
“The developments in the North were those loosely embraced in the term modernization and included urbanization, industrialization, and mechanization. While those changes went forward apace, the antebellum South changed comparatively little, clinging to its rural, agricultural, labor-intensive economy and its traditional folk culture.”
—C. Vann Woodward (b. 1908)
