Culture and Landmarks

Dhofar is a tribal community, home to many ancient tribes. The Arab tribes include Al-Hakli (Qara), Al Kathiri, Al-Hashmeis, Al-Yafei, Al-Mashaikhi, Al-Shahri, Al-Mahri, Al-Batahri, and Al-Barami. It also houses many expatriates. Still, Dhofar is not a rural region but, in fact, has a combination of cultures. It is a mixture of traditional Omani heritage and an international way of living. The Salalah city (provincial capital) is more or less developed like Muscat. It has an International Airport, One Bus station, more than three star resorts including Marriot & Crowne Plaza, well-kept streets,Outlets of international retail chains, more than five 3D cinemas under construction, one of the largest seaports in the middle-east, one post office, a University, many hospitals, Colleges & Schools (both English and Arabic medium) are a few amenities to mention. But the main attraction of the region is that the nature is preserved and maintained along with the industries. Dhofar has been praised for its scenic natural beauty from times immemorial. The Dhofar region is rich in meteorites. The Burj-al-Nadha Clock-tower is a popular landmark and is featured in the Dhofar Municipality coat of arms.

Famous quotes containing the words culture and, culture and/or landmarks:

The genius of American culture and its integrity comes from fidelity to the light. Plain as day, we say. Happy as the day is long. Early to bed, early to rise. American virtues are daylight virtues: honesty, integrity, plain speech. We say yes when we mean yes and no when we mean no, and all else comes from the evil one. America presumes innocence and even the right to happiness.
    Richard Rodriguez (b. 1944)

I am writing to resist the view that Europe and civilization are going to Hell. If I am being “crucified for an idea”Mthat is, the coherent idea around which my muddles accumulated—it is probably the idea that European culture ought to survive, that the best qualities of it ought to survive along with whatever cultures, in whatever universality. Against the propaganda of terror and the propaganda of luxury, have you a nice simple answer?
    Ezra Pound (1885–1972)

Of all the bewildering things about a new country, the absence of human landmarks is one of the most depressing and disheartening.
    Willa Cather (1873–1947)
