Influence of Calculators and Computers
In countries with a decimal comma, the decimal point is also common as the "international" notation because of the influence of devices, such as electronic calculators, which use the decimal point. Most computer operating systems allow selection of the decimal mark and programs that have been carefully internationalised will follow this, but some programs ignore it and a few are even broken by it.

“The example of America must be the example, not merely of peace because it will not fight, but of peace because it is the healing and elevating influence of the world, and strife is not. There is such a thing as a man being too proud to fight. There is such a thing as a nation being so right that it does not need to convince others by force that it is right.”
—Woodrow Wilson (18561924)
“Temperament is the natural, inborn style of behavior of each individual. Its the how of behavior, not the why.... The question is not, Why does he behave a certain way if he doesnt get a cookie? but rather, When he doesnt get a cookie, how does he express his displeasure...? The environmentand your behavior as a parentcan influence temperament and interplay with it, but it is not the cause of temperamental characteristics.”
—Stanley Turecki (20th century)
“But the age of chivalry is gone. That of sophisters, economists, and calculators has succeeded; and the glory of Europe is extinguished forever.”
