“Within the hollow crown
That rounds the mortal temples of a king
Keeps Death his court, and there the antic sits,
Scoffing his state and mocking at his pomp,
Allowing him a breath, a little scene,
To monarchize, be feared, and kill with looks.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“Lady Sondes match surprises, but does not offend me; had her
first marriage been of affection, or had their been a grown-up
daughter, I should not have forgiven her; but I consider
everybody as having a right to marry once in their lives for
love, if they can.”
—Jane Austen (17751817)
