Deadly Venoms is an all-female hip hop group formed in 1997 (when the group was simply called Venom) and originally consisting of N-Tyce, J-Boo, Champ MC, Finesse (formerly of Finesse & Synquis). Lin Que (formerly Isis, who was affiliated with X-Clan) joined the group shortly after the release of its debut single, "Bomb Threat" (Protect Ya Neck/Echo International), but she never got to record any material with them before because she departed the group shortly thereafter.
A legal dispute with A&M/PolyGram Records and the then-forthcoming merger between the MCA and PolyGram families of labels that formed the Universal Music Group forced its debut album, The Antidote, to remain in its vaults, although the single “One More to Go” (featuring Inspectah Deck, Method Man, Cappadonna, Street Life, and GZA) b/w “Bomb Threat,” was released and the album was later leaked.
Deadly Venoms' second album, Pretty Thugs, was also never released because of similar label disputes, this time with DreamWorks/Interscope/Universal Records. However, as with Antidote, copies of the record were leaked, but a promo CD was actually pressed. Still with Wu-Tang Management, the group, now reduced to three with the departure of Finesse for undisclosed business reasons. Though increasingly becoming a Wu-affiliate, it finally managed to release an album with 2002's Still Standing, with Rocks the World/Caroline/Virgin/EMI Records.
Famous quotes containing the word deadly:
“All that a critic, as critic, can give poets is the deadly encouragement that never ceases to remind them of how heavy their inheritance is.”
—Harold Bloom (b. 1930)
