Connection To Heteronormative Society
The LGBT, that constitutes Davie Village, is extremely connected to the existing Heteronormative society in Vancouver. The relationship is extremely Interdependent, in that both communities feed off of each other. Both communities can benefit from the other economically and culturally. Economically, the bond creates another market of consumers and producers. This interdependent relationship between the LGBT and heteronormative community creates a large platform for businesses of all sorts to develop and expand. There are a majority of businesses in Davie Village, ones that cater directly to the LGBT, such as adult services, and ones that could also be used by the rest of society, such as hair salons and floral shops. These communities may also benefit culturally by creating a site at which all members of the LGBT can interact, thus forming the backbone of a diverse set of economic, social and cultural practices. These sites do not only provide a location for people within the LGBT to interact, but also provides a space for the heteronormative society to join in this interaction.
A successful relationship between these two communities is an extremely important factor in economic growth and success of the city as a whole. A thriving relationship will result in a cohesive, strong overall community. Places that have accepted the LGBT and have not isolated them saw more impressive economic growth than places that did. Vancouver is becoming an increasingly popular place for immigrants to settle and is thus continuing to attract investors. As Richard Florida stated, a presence of a large and vibrant gay community indicates that the region is open, inclusive, or tolerant, and will attract talent, which aids in the creation of technology. The existence of the Creative class in Vancouver, is aiding in attracting worldwide talent. Heteronormative societies are beginning to realize that the LGBT provides a variety of benefits including, but not limited to, the growth of the economy. The vibrant Davie Village is a representation of the openness and inclusiveness of the city of Vancouver.

Famous quotes containing the words connection and/or society:
“Parents have railed against shelters near schools, but no one has made any connection between the crazed consumerism of our kids and their elders cold unconcern toward others. Maybe the homeless are not the only ones who need to spend time in these places to thaw out.”
—Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
“The first sign of corruption in a society that is still alive is that the end justifies the means.”
—Georges Bernanos (18881948)
