Life

Strickland was born in Glen Cove, Long Island, New York, and moved to Princeton, New Jersey with his family, before relocating to California. His earlier television roles before Suddenly Susan included Dave's World, Roseanne, Sister, Sister, and Mad About You. Strickland suffered from bipolar disorder and had a history of drug and alcohol abuse. He was arrested in October 1998 for the possession of cocaine, pleaded no contest in December and was sentenced to 36 months probation and ordered into rehabilitation. He was due in court on the day of his death for a progress report. News reports of events leading up to Strickland's death suggest that he had chosen to stop taking the lithium he was prescribed to control his bipolar disorder.

Famous quotes containing the word life:

We have to give ourselves—men in particular—permission to really be with and get to know our children. The premise is that taking care of kids can be a pain in the ass, and it is frustrating and agonizing, but also gratifying and enjoyable. When a little kid says, “I love you, Daddy,” or cries and you comfort her or him, life becomes a richer experience.
—Anonymous Father. Ourselves and Our Children, by Boston Women’s Health Book Collective, ch. 3 (1978)

Nominee. A modest gentleman shrinking from the distinction of private life and diligently seeking the honorable obscurity of public office.
    Ambrose Bierce (1842–1914)

That’s playgirl stuff, Brownie. I’ve seen them in London, Paris, Rome. They start life in a New York nightclub and end up covering the world like a paid advertisement. Not an honest feeling from her kneecap to her neck.
    John Lee Mahin (1902–1984)
