David Conner (bishop)

David John Conner KCVO (born 6 April 1947) is Dean of Windsor (since 1998) and former Bishop to the Forces (2001–2009).

As Dean of Windsor, Conner also holds the post of Registrar of the Order of the Garter and is a domestic chaplain to Queen Elizabeth. Prior to his appointment to Windsor, he held a number of posts:

  • 1994-98: Bishop of Lynn (a suffragan bishopric in the Diocese of Norwich);
  • 1987-94: rector of Great St Mary's, Cambridge (the University church).

Conner was educated at Exeter College, Oxford and St Stephen's House, Oxford. Having also spent a year at the Oxford Department of Education, soon after ordination he moved into school chaplaincy in Oxford and later at Winchester. For a while, he was an examining chaplain to the Bishop of Winchester.

For many years Conner has been closely involved with the selection of candidates for ordination and with the inspection of theological colleges, courses and schemes. He has been governor of a number of schools and colleges. He is an Honorary Fellow of Girton College, Cambridge.

Conner was appointed Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) in the 2010 New Year Honours.
