Nonetheless, Treen maintained political ambitions even after his landslide defeat for re-election as governor. Famous quotes containing the words political, bids and/or considered:
“Currently, U.S. society has been encouraged by its political and subsidized mass-media intelligentsia to view U.S. life as a continual morning in America paradise, where the only social problems occur in the inner cities. Psychologists call this denial.”
—Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)
“What is this flesh I purchased with my pains,
This fallen star my milk sustains,
This love that makes my hearts blood stop
Or strikes a sudden chill into my bones
And bids my hair stand up?”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
“There was a time when the average reader read a novel simply for the moral he could get out of it, and however naïve that may have been, it was a good deal less naïve than some of the limited objectives he has now. Today novels are considered to be entirely concerned with the social or economic or psychological forces that they will by necessity exhibit, or with those details of daily life that are for the good novelist only means to some deeper end.”
—Flannery OConnor (19251964)
