Davao City
The City of Davao (Cebuano: Dakbayan sa Davao, Tagalog: Lungsod ng Dabaw) is the largest city in the island of Mindanao in the Philippines in terms of land area. It is a part of Metro Davao, the third most populous metropolitan area in the country. It is also the center of trade, commerce, and industry in Mindanao.
The city serves as the regional center for the Davao Region. It has an estimated population of 1,530,365 as of 2011, making it the country's largest city outside Metro Manila. The City Mayors Foundation ranks Davao City as the 87th fastest growing city in the world, and it has been listed by the FDi magazine as the 10th "Asian City of the Future".
The city is characterized by beaches and mountain resorts, and is close to diving spots. The highest peak in the Philippines, Mount Apo, offers a wide array of flora and fauna. Davao City was awarded by the Department of Tourism as the "Most Livable City" in the Philippines in 2008.
