Cymbal Alloys - Intermediate Bronze Alloys

Intermediate Bronze Alloys

In the second half of the 20th century Paiste and Zildjian both released professional cymbal series composed of bronze with about 12% tin. Such an alloy is two-phase at room temperature, like bell metal, and cannot be cold-rolled so the cymbals must be produced by the traditional casting process.

Paiste call their intermediate alloy Signature Bronze or Sound Formula, and for a time produced no bell metal cymbals, but now produce high-end cymbals of both this alloy and bell bronze.

Examples: Paiste Signature and some Traditionals, Zildjian ZHT.

Famous quotes containing the words intermediate and/or bronze:

Complete courage and absolute cowardice are extremes that very few men fall into. The vast middle space contains all the intermediate kinds and degrees of courage; and these differ as much from one another as men’s faces or their humors do.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)

What will our children remember of us, ten, fifteen years from now? The mobile we bought or didn’t buy? Or the tone in our voices, the look in our eyes, the enthusiasm for life—and for them—that we felt? They, and we, will remember the spirit of things, not the letter. Those memories will go so deep that no one could measure it, capture it, bronze it, or put it in a scrapbook.
    Sonia Taitz (20th century)
