The Croatian Democratic Union (Croatian: Hrvatska demokratska zajednica, HDZ) is a Christian democratic and conservative political party and the main center-right political party in Croatia. It is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Croatia, along with the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SDP). It is currently the second-largest party in the Croatian Parliament with 44 seats. The Christian democratic HDZ governed Croatia from 1990 to 2000 and, in coalition, from 2003 to 2011. The party is an associate member of the European People's Party (EPP).
Famous quotes containing the words democratic and/or union:
“The democratic youth ... lives along day by day, gratifying the desire that occurs to him, at one time drinking and listening to the flute, at another downing water and reducing, now practising gymnastic, and again idling and neglecting everything; and sometimes spending his time as though he were occupied in philosophy.”
—Plato (c. 427347 B.C.)
“We hope the day will soon come when every girl will be a member of a great Union of Unmarried Women, pledged to refuse an offer of marriage from any man who is not an advocate of their emancipation.”
—Tennessee Claflin (18461923)
