Emory and Martha Cook donated the US branch of their record company, master tapes, patents, and papers to the Smithsonian Institution in 1990. The recordings are currently operated by Smithsonian Folkways Recordings.
The Trinidad branch of Cook was sold by Emory Cook some point earlier. There are a number of Trinidad-only releases (mostly singles) that Smithsonian are unable to reissue because their master tapes belong to the owners of the Trinidad branch.

Famous quotes containing the words current and/or status:
“What in fact have I achieved, however much it may seem? Bits and pieces ... trivialities. But here they wont tolerate anything else, or anything more. If I wanted to take one step in advance of the current views and opinions of the day, that would put paid to any power I have. Do you know what we are ... those of us who count as pillars of society? We are societys tools, neither more nor less.”
—Henrik Ibsen (18281906)
“What is clear is that Christianity directed increased attention to childhood. For the first time in history it seemed important to decide what the moral status of children was. In the midst of this sometimes excessive concern, a new sympathy for children was promoted. Sometimes this meant criticizing adults. . . . So far as parents were put on the defensive in this way, the beginning of the Christian era marks a revolution in the childs status.”
—C. John Sommerville (20th century)
