The civil liberties organization Foundation for Individual Rights in Education has named Colorado College on its Red Alert list for several years over its treatment of two students who distributed a satirical flyer which parodied the college's Feminist and Gender Studies newsletter. Famous quotes containing the words free, speech and/or concerns:

I believe that man is in the last resort so free a being that his right to be what he believes himself to be cannot be contested.
    —G.C. (Georg Christoph)

We hear about constitutional rights, free speech and the free press. Every time I hear those words I say to myself, “That man is a Red, that man is a Communist.” You never heard a real American talk in that manner.
    Frank Hague (1876–1956)

    Frances Fitzgerald (b. 1940)
