Coasting mode is defined in Federal Standard 1037C as a specific timing mode in timing-dependent system.
It is defined as a free-running operational timing mode in which continuous or periodic measurement of clock error, i.e., of timing error, is not made.
Operation in the coasting mode may be extended for a period of time by using clock-error data or clock-correction data (obtained during a prior period of operation in the tracking mode) to estimate clock corrections.
Famous quotes containing the words coasting and/or mode:
“O these encounterers, so glib of tongue,
That give a coasting welcome ere it comes,
And wide unclasp the tables of their thoughts
To every ticklish reader! Set them down
For sluttish spoils of opportunity
And daughters of the game.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“I have no scheme about it,no designs on men at all; and, if I had, my mode would be to tempt them with the fruit, and not with the manure. To what end do I lead a simple life at all, pray? That I may teach others to simplify their lives?and so all our lives be simplified merely, like an algebraic formula? Or not, rather, that I may make use of the ground I have cleared, to live more worthily and profitably?”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
