Christopher Hitchens - Political Views

Political Views

My own opinion is enough for me, and I claim the right to have it defended against any consensus, any majority, anywhere, anyplace, anytime. And anyone who disagrees with this can pick a number, get in line and kiss my ass.
– Christopher Hitchens

The San Francisco Chronicle referred to Hitchens as a "gadfly with gusto". In 2009, Hitchens was listed by Forbes magazine as one of the "25 most influential liberals in the U.S. media". However, the same article noted that he would "likely be aghast to find himself on this list," since it reduces his self-styled radicalism to mere liberalism. Hitchens' political perspective appears in his wide ranging writings, which include many of the political dialogues he published.

Famous quotes containing the words political and/or views:

Liberalism, austere in political trifles, has learned ever more artfully to unite a constant protest against the government with a constant submission to it.
    Alexander Herzen (1812–1870)

Taught from their infancy that beauty is woman’s sceptre, the mind shapes itself to the body, and, roaming round its gilt cage, only seeks to adorn its prison. Men have various employments and pursuits which engage their attention, and give a character to the opening mind; but women, confined to one, and having their thoughts constantly directed to the most insignificant part of themselves, seldom extend their views beyond the triumph of the hour.
    Mary Wollstonecraft (1759–1797)
