Chris Hughton - International Career

International Career

Though being born in England, Hughton qualified to play for the Republic of Ireland through his mother. He won 53 caps for the Republic from 1979 to 1991. He was part of the nation's final squads for Euro 1988 — playing in all three matches — and the 1990 World Cup (where he did not play, Steve Staunton playing instead). Hughton was awarded a testimonial which was played on 29 May 1995 at Lansdowne Road. He also served as the national team's assistant manager under Brian Kerr, from February 2003 to October 2005.

Famous quotes containing the word career:

I seemed intent on making it as difficult for myself as possible to pursue my “male” career goal. I not only procrastinated endlessly, submitting my medical school application at the very last minute, but continued to crave a conventional female role even as I moved ahead with my “male” pursuits.
    Margaret S. Mahler (1897–1985)
