Allmusic critic John Bush panned Chiastic Slide as being an underwhelming follow-up to 1995's groundbreaking Tri Repetae, saying it was too repetitive and lacked ideas. Others now argue that the album inspired subsequent Autechre releases such as 2001's Confield, and it is often cited as one of the most underappreciated IDM albums of the 1990s.
