Marriage and Issue

Around 1163, Casimir married with Helen (ca. 1140/42 – ca. 1202/06), daughter of Duke Conrad II of Znojmo, scion of a Moravian cadet branch of the Přemyslid dynasty. They had seven children:

  1. Maria (1164–1194), married in November 1178 to Prince Vsevolod IV of Kiev.
  2. Casimir (ca. 1165? – 1 March 1167).
  3. Bolesław (ca. 1168/71 – 16 April 1182). He died accidentally, after falling from a tree.
  4. Odon, died in infancy.
  5. Adelaide (ca. 1177/84 – 8 December 1211), foundress of the convent of St. Jakob in Sandomierz.
  6. Leszek I the White (ca. 1186/87 – Marcinkow, 23 November 1227).
  7. Konrad (ca. 1187/88 – 31 August 1247).

Famous quotes containing the words marriage and/or issue:

In ‘70 he married again, and I having, voluntarily, assumed the legal guilt of breaking my marriage contract, do cheerfully accept the legal penalty—a life of celibacy—bringing no charge against him who was my husband, save that he was not much better than the average man.
    Jane Grey Swisshelm (1815–1884)

The reason child care is such a loaded issue is that when we talk about it, we are always tacitly talking about motherhood. And when we’re talking about motherhood we’re always tacitly assuming that child care must be a very dim second to full-time mother care.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
