Cahto People - Government

Government

The Cahto Indian Tribe is run by a democratically-elected tribal council. The current tribal executive committee is:

  • Cristy Taylor, Chairwoman
  • Richard J. Smith, Vice-Chairman
  • Lillian Frazier, Secretary-Treasurer
  • Dewey Lucas, Member at Large.

The tribe operates its own housing authority, tribal police, and EPA office. Economic development comes from the tribe's Red Fox Casino, located in Laytonville.

Famous quotes containing the word government:

    Frankly, I’d like to see the government get out of war altogether and leave the whole field to private industry.
    Joseph Heller (b. 1923)

    The dignity and stability of government in all its branches, the morals of the people, and every blessing of society, depend so much upon an upright and skilful administration of justice, that the judicial power ought to be distinct from both the legislative and executive, and independent upon both, that so it may be a check upon both, as both should be checks upon that.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

    Nor the tame will, nor timid brain,
    Nor heavy knitting of the brow
    Bred that fierce tooth and cleanly limb
    And threw him up to laugh on the bough;
    No government appointed him.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)
