The BYU men's rugby team is a major force in American college rugby and plays in the College Premier Division. BYU reached the national championship match in 7 consecutive years from 2006-2012. BYU won its first National Rugby Championship in 2009 by defeating the University of California, Berkeley, and won another championship in 2012. Several students and alumni have provided players to the United States national rugby union team, the Eagles. BYU has been led since 2006 by head coach David Smyth, who was also head coach of the collegiate All-Americans in 2006 & 2007. BYU plays its home games at South Field.
