Life Cycle
Sexual reproduction may be isogamous, oogamous, or anisogamous. Union of gametes may take place in water or within the oogonium (oogamous species). The life cycle shows great variability from one group to another.
However, the life cycle of Laminaria consists of the diploid generation, that is the large kelp well known to most people, producing sporangia from specialised microscopic structures, which divide meiotically before they are released. As they are haploid there are equal numbers of male and female spores. With the exception of the Fucales, all brown algae have a life cycle with an alternation between haploid and diploid forms.

Famous quotes containing the words life and/or cycle:
“From too much love of living,
From hope and fear set free,
We thank with brief thanksgiving
Whatever gods may be
That no life lives for ever;
That dead men rise up never;
That even the weariest river
Winds somewhere safe to sea.”
—A.C. (Algernon Charles)
“The lifelong process of caregiving, is the ultimate link between caregivers of all ages. You and I are not just in a phase we will outgrow. This is lifebirth, death, and everything in between.... The care continuum is the cycle of life turning full circle in each of our lives. And what we learn when we spoon-feed our babies will echo in our ears as we feed our parents. The point is not to be done. The point is to be ready to do again.”
—Paula C. Lowe (20th century)
