Brighton Beach - Crime

Crime

Brighton Beach is considered a hot spot for the "Russian Mafia," though public perception has been that organized crime "has largely gone away." In the 1970s, the most notorious leg of the mafia was the Potato Bag Gang, which served as a robbery gang for larger Russian crime syndicates in New York City. Marat Balagula was a crime boss from Brighton Beach who denies having any connection to the American Mafia or the Russian-speaking Mafia.

Famous quotes containing the word crime:

Knowing what [Christ] knew , knowing all about mankind—ah! who would have thought that the crime is not so much to make others die, but to die oneself—confronted day and night with his innocent crime, it became too difficult to go on. It was better to get it over with, to not defend himself, to die, in order not to be the only one to have survived, and to go elsewhere, where, perhaps, he would be supported.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

The disfranchisement of a single legal elector by fraud or intimidation is a crime too grave to be regarded lightly.
    Benjamin Harrison (1833–1901)

By measuring individual human worth, the novelist reveals the full enormity of the State’s crime when it sets out to crush that individuality.
    Ian McEwan (b. 1938)
