Mountain Rescue
Mountain rescue in south Wales is provided by five volunteer groups, with the Police having overall command. In serious situations they are aided by RAF helicopters from RAF Chivenor or RAF Valley. The five groups are:
- BMRT - Brecon Mountain Rescue Team
- CBMRT - Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team
- LMRT - Longtown Mountain Rescue Team based in the east
- WBMSART - Western Beacons Mountain Search and Rescue Team
- SARDA South Wales - Search and Rescue Dog Association covering South and & Mid Wales
The groups are funded primarily by donations. Their work is not restricted to mountain rescue - they frequently assist the Police in their search for missing or vulnerable people in the community.

Famous quotes containing the words mountain and/or rescue:
“... my mother ... piled up her hair and went out to teach in a one-room school, mountain children little and big alike. The first day, some fathers came along to see if she could whip their children, some who were older than she. She told the children that she did intend to whip them if they became unruly and refused to learn, and invited the fathers to stay if they liked and shed be able to whip them too. Having been thus tried out, she was a great success with them after that.”
—Eudora Welty (b. 1909)
“I positively like the sense, when I dine out, and stoop to rescue a falling handkerchief, that I am not going to rub my shoulder against a heart. What are hearts doing on sleeves?”
—Katharine Fullerton Gerould (18791944)
