Bowed Instruments

Bowed string instruments are a subcategory of string instruments that are played by a bow rubbing the strings. The bow rubbing the string causes vibration which the instrument emits as sound.

Famous quotes containing the words bowed and/or instruments:

    Then bowed down the highest tree
    unto his mother’s hand;
    Then she cried, “See, Joseph,
    I have cherries at command.”
    Unknown. The Cherry-Tree Carol (l. 26–28)

    Sound all the lofty instruments of war,
    And by that music let us all embrace,
    For, heaven to earth, some of us never shall
    A second time do such a courtesy.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
