Bogdan

Bogdan or Bohdan (Cyrillic: Богдан) - is a Slavic masculine name common among eastern Slavs as well as Romanians. It is derived from the Slavic words Bog/Boh (Cyrillic: Бог), meaning "god", and dan (Cyrillic: дан), meaning "given". The name can also be a surname, a case more common in the Central Europe and among the southern Slavs. The name appears to be an early calque from Byzantine Θεόδωρος with the same meaning.
