Cutthroat Bid Whist
Bid Whist may also be played as an individual game. For most players, the standard 54-card deck with a 6-card kitty may be used. For a 5 player game, the kitty should be reduced to 4 cards.

Famous quotes containing the words cutthroat, bid and/or whist:
“Signor Antonio, many a time and oft
In the Rialto you have rated me
About my moneys and my usances.
Still have I borne it with a patient shrug,
For sufferance is the badge of all our tribe.
You call me misbeliever, cutthroat dog,
And spit upon my Jewish gaberdine,
And all for use of that which is mine own.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“O, call back yesterday, bid time return.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“[My father] was a lazy man. It was the days of independent incomes, and if you had an independent income you didnt work. You werent expected to. I strongly suspect that my father would not have been particularly good at working anyway. He left our house in Torquay every morning and went to his club. He returned, in a cab, for lunch, and in the afternoon went back to the club, played whist all afternoon, and returned to the house in time to dress for dinner.”
—Agatha Christie (18911976)
