Acrobatic Bharatanatyam

Acrobatic Bharatanatyam known in India as Kalakshetra Bharatanatyam. This is a new, more modern branch of this dance. Schools that teach this style of dance are mostly in the Bay Area, the two most common known to me Bharata Kala Kutiram and Nrithyollasa Dance Academy. Both schools train young acrobatic dancers, and both have produced professional dancers. Bharata Kala Kutiram is more widely renowned for its professional dancers, the youngest at the age of thirteen. The acrobatic moves taught in this type of dance consist of handsprings, handstands, walkovers, and other such forms of gymnastics.
