Murder
On April 3, 1924, in the married couple's bedroom, Annan shot Kalstedt in the back. According to her initial story, they had been drinking wine Kalstedt had brought over and got into an argument. There was a gun on the bed and both reached for it, but Beulah got it first and shot Kalstedt while he was putting on his coat and hat. She then sat drinking cocktails and playing a foxtrot record, "Hula Lou," over and over for about four hours as she sat watching Kalstedt die. She then called her husband to say she had killed a man who had "tried to make love" to her.

Famous quotes containing the word murder:
“Your kind doesnt just kill men. You murder their spirits, you strangle their last breath of hope and freedom, so that you, the chosen few, can rule your slaves in ease and luxury. Youre a sadist just like the others, Heiser, with no resource but violence and no feeling but fear, the kind youre feeling now. Youre drowning, Heiser, drowning in the ocean of blood around this barren little island you call the New Order.”
—Curtis Siodmak (19021988)
“Anybody whos been through a divorce will tell you that at one point ... theyve thought murder. The line between thinking murder and doing murder isnt that major.”
—Oliver Stone (b. 1946)
“What drivel it all is!... A string of words called religion. Another string of words called philosophy. Half a dozen other strings called political ideals. And all the words either ambiguous or meaningless. And people getting so excited about them theyll murder their neighbours for using a word they dont happen to like. A word that probably doesnt mean as much as a good belch. Just a noise without even the excuse of gas on the stomach.”
—Aldous Huxley (18941963)
